Advice for Leaving the Kids with the Nanny

When a nanny arrives to take care of the kids for the first time, everyone is full of emotions. Whether you're nervous, jumping for joy or mixed on that first day, you're sure to be feeling many things. Here are a few important tips to keep in mind when you first separate from the kids and leave them in someone else's trusted hands.
Always - and I mean always - leave a form for emergencies where the nanny knows that it is. The best way to do this is to have a dry-erase board either on the refrigerator or in a pantry with all necessary information. This should include your cell phone number, a neighbor's phone number (who's often home, if possible), the doctor's number and address, poison control and any other relevant information.
If you have grandparents in the neighborhood, put their number there. If you have allergies in the house, write that down as well. It's vitally important to have all of this information in one place where it can always be found. When there is an emergency, we often forget everything. We need to have things effortlessly available so that, hopefully, we will think about it when the moment is urgent. If you leave a scratch pad with this information in a different place each day, the nanny is bound to be confused.
Hopefully, you'll never need this information or these tips. If you should, however, it's always best to keep things simple and easy. Keep in mind, if you've brought a nanny to your country from another one, there are many things that she doesn't know. 9-1-1 hasn't been ingrained in her head as it has in every first grader's in the country. She needs to be taught everything so that she can be successful at her job.
